My newest crush

I was just talking about the National Weather Service forecast summary guy WOODY! yesterday, and how he writes these interesting little summaries that always have a personal touch.

Here is one from this morning, I love his tender memories from his college years:

*sigh*

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BALTIMORE MD/WASHINGTON DC
351 AM EST FRI FEB 9 2007

.SHORT TERM /TODAY-TNGT/...

WALKING OUTSIDE TO TAKE OBS THESE PAST FEW NGTS HAS REMINDED ME A
LTL OF MY COLLEGE DAYS IN VT - VERY CRISP AIR.

I USUALLY START5 MY SHIFT BY DOING A SFC ANLYS. TNGT MY MAP LOOKS
ALMOST IDENTICAL TO THE ONE I DID LAST NGT - ARCTIC HIGH OVR THE
DAKOTAS WEDGING SE TO THE MID ATLC. ISOTHERMS ARE CLOSE TO THE SAME
AS WELL. ONLY DIFF IS ON STLT WHERE JET INDUCED CI WL BE MOVG INTO
AREA TO KEEP SKIES FM BEING QUITE AS CRYSTAL AS YDA...BUT STILL
ABUNDANT SUN. PRES PATTERN LOOKS IDENTICAL AS WELL...SO XPCTG WINDS
TO INCRS DURG MID MRNG. A FEW GUSTS OVR 30 YDA AT IAD AND BWI. MAY
BE A REPEAT TDA.

TNGT CONTINUES TO LOOK CLR AND COLD.

WOODY!

And he used "crisp" and "crystal"- such lyrical words in this context. *more sighs* I think I have a crush on the weather summary guy.

I know. I often appreciate Woody's! "humanizing" and personalizing the discussion. Some of the other locations across the country read like a computerized printout...zzz.
I do know one or two people out there in Sterling at the NWS, but not Woody! I have, however, talked to him a few times in the past, when I was working weekends here at FOX 5. So, I have my own mental image in my mind. Let's just say imaginations are a great thing...why ruin the fantasy ;-)

What I appreciate is the contractions and abbreviations - one last little holdover from the days of snappy sharp telegrams in B&W movies full of snappy sharp dialogue...
