Powerline 200 Mbs Range Extender

An e-mail I just sent to Jimbo:

girl...

i forgot to tell you that i have a new toy for the house. it is so exciting that i can barely keep it in the pants.

we have a cable modem here in our bedroom but we cannot move it to the office - there is some requirement about a phone jack (since we have bunlded cable, internet, phone) so i cannot have the modem in my office. i really am opposed to wireless....signal decay is pronounced in older homes with thick walls and it is slow...

so i found this nifty little gadget called a "Powerline Range Extender"....so you hook your modem into this adapter on any electrical socket in the house. you can then put a second adapter on any other electical socket in your house and run ethernet from that adapter to your computer.....so you use your house's own electical system to move the signal around the house. no decay (can handle 200Mbs speeds) - i cannot tell the difference between this arrangement and having the computer plugged directly to the modem. Might be a useful arrangment for you to think about since using wireless in the city is problematic and unsafe - and you can move your computer anywhere in the house that has an electrical socket.

even better is that you can have more than one!

the powerline 200Mbp Range Extender will be henceforth known as:

"OMG - Wireless is so yesterday - extend your range Bee-otch!"

You might want to pass this rave along to other technophiles who have problems with wireless and need speed.

Hugs
matt

You are such a closet case geek!

That's a cool product, the previous versions were much slower than wireless.

Should another person in the house turn on the vacuum you are probably fucked by the electrical noise. What about brownouts and surges?
